Accurate, fast, true: CDMS for large biomolecule analysis

The need to measure ever larger biomolecules has driven leaps in mass spectrometry technology. TrueMass CDMS adds charge as a simultaneous measurement, so the true intact mass of individual ions can be determined.

The TrueMass CDMS analyser

Introducing TrueMass CDMS

Measuring beyond the limits of m/z alone

Electrospray ionisation (ESI) MS is a well-established method for quantifying the mass spectra of macromolecules up to ~10 million Daltons (MDa) but, for larger species, such as intact viral capsids or DNA/RNA, traditional mass spectrometers measuring mass-to-charge ratio (m/z) alone struggle to resolve adjacent charge states.

Charge detection mass spectrometry (CDMS) introduces charge as an additional simultaneous measurement, which allows you to determine the intensity of individual signals. Taken together, m/z and charge enable the evaluation of a molecule’s true intact mass.

For many years, MS experts have attempted to harness the potential of CDMS for large biomolecule analysis, but throughput and resolution have so far limited its widespread adoption.

Core benefits

Core benefits of TrueMass CDMS

High throughput

High throughput analysis of large molecular weight biomolecules otherwise inaccessible to analysis in conventional electrospray-based mass spectrometers.

Uncompromised mass resolution

Uncompromised mass resolution due to superior m/z resolution and charge accuracy.

Real-time data analysis

State-of-the-art data analysis is performed using a bespoke Fourier transform MS (FTMS) booster platform, which allows real time deconvolution of transient signals for maximum spectral quality.
